Stirling revived their play-off hopes with their first win of the season over Dumbarton.

The victory moves them to within seven points of Peterhead and they have three games in hand, starting with a trip to Alloa on Tuesday.

It was another disappointing afternoon for Dumbarton, who have the worst away record in the division and have picked up just one point since beating Stirling at the end of January.

Iain Russell had an early chance for the visitors, but his angled shot was saved by Myles Hogarth, and Albion should have gone in front just before half-time when Paddy Connolly set up Chris Aitken, who blazed the ball over the bar.

Dumbarton threatened at the start of the second half, but the game appeared to be heading for a poor goal-less draw until it came to life in the last quarter.

Albion took the lead in the 68th minute when John Fraser picked out Connoly, who ran on and beat Stephen Grindlay with a fine low shot.

Four minutes later Doug Wilson scored the second goal from close range after substitute Chris Hay had caused confusion in the Dumbarton defence.

The third goal arrived after 85 minutes when trialist Neil McVicker controlled a cross from the right and swept the ball into the net.

The visitors got one back in the 88th minute when Russell pounced from close range after Hogarth failed to gather a corner. James Smith hit the post in injury time, but this was still a day to forget for the second-bottom side.
