Ton now need to beat Stranraer next Saturday and hope Alloa can do them a favour a week later to be promoted.

Although the game was goal-less, there was no end of excitement at both ends.

Chris Templeman had Ton's first chance, moving in on a low Andy McLaren cross, but Ian Dobbins moved smartly to turn the ball out for a corner. John Maisano ran on to a Stewart Greacen head-flick but couldn't lob Steven Grindlay.

Both sides cancelled each other out in midfield. and the home crowd hand to wait until the 31stminute for Peter Weatherson and Paul Walker to break through the Sons' rearguard only for Grindlay to produce saves.

Sons opened up and, inspired by Shaun Dillon, threatened the Ton goal on several occasions.

Dillon tested David McGurn with a 20-yard shot, then curled over a free-kick four Dobbin to head on. McGurn leapt to claw the ball out via the underside of the bar, but referee Dallas adjudged the ball hadn't cross the line.

McGurn had a marvellous point-blank save from Eddie Annand, while Grindlay saved well from a Templeman header before he dashed from his line to force John Maisano to fire over.

Andy McLaren broke free despite howls for offside, but Grindlay advanced confidently and blocked the striker's effort.

Sons' threatened with clever break and McGurn turnedd a Dillon drive on to the bar.

Morton's Jason Walker fired wide after Templeman nodded him through. Dallas allowed over five extra minutes, but neither side could benefit.
