Dumbarton 1-0 Albion- Match Report

Gilhaney strike helps Sons advance

Dumbarton bounced back from last week's Ramsdens Cup disappointment with a 1-0 victory over Albion in the first round of the Scottish Communities League Cup.

Midfielder Mark Gilhaney struck the game's decisive goal three minutes before the break when he capitalised on some dithering defending from the visitors to slide home a right-footed finish.

Dumbarton, who slipped up against Stranraer last weekend, went close again early in the second half when Mitchel Megginson fired a low shot narrowly wide.

Gilhaney was denied a second by Albion goalkeeper Neil Parry soon after and Dumbarton midfielder Chris Turner twice went close, with a header and then a free-kick that was well saved.

Scottish League Two side Albion refused to roll over, but the Sons progressed to the second round.
