Forfar dug deep to secure a valuable away point which keeps them four points clear of their hosts in the battle to avoid the relegation play-offs.

The Sons, on the other hand, will be disappointed that their ploy of using three strikers - Iain Russell, Andy Rodgers, and John Gemmell - failed not only to provide goals but didn't create a clear-cut opportunity during the entire match.

Russell did have a volley inside a crowded penalty area turned aside by Sean Murdoch after half an hour, but after that only a Chris Boyle 20-yarder, which flew narrowly over midway through the second half, threatened the Loons' goal, despite the home side dominating possession.

Forfar were content to hit on the break, and they did create the best opening of the game after just 10 minutes. A well-worked free-kick routine found Paul Lunan unmarked at the back post, but from a couple yards he sent his header into the ground and over the bar.

After that it was a backs-to-the-wall performance by the men from Angus with David Dunn in outstanding form, inspiring all those in blue around him.
