Alloa's resounding 4-2 victory over Dumbarton extended their run to 10 matches. The pace and quality of their play left Dunbarton chasing shadows for most of the match.

Alloa opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Jose Quitongo, starting his first match for the home side, with his back to goal, put a neat back-heel ball into the path of Ian Ross, who blasted past John Wight in the Dumbarton goal.

Quitongo extended Alloa's lead after 10 minutes when he ran on to a John Ovenstone clearance that had gone over the heads of the Dumbarton defence and volleyed the ball home from 18 yards.

Dumbarton responded immediately and came close in the 11th minute when Michael Bolochoweckyj had to react sharply to clear the ball from the goal-line from an Iain Russell shot.

Alloa contiuned to put the Dumbarton defence under pressure, and they were rewarded with two goals in two minutes. In the 23rd minute, Andy Brown was on hand to tap home from six yards from a Richard Walker pass. One minute later, Brown Ferguson extended All's lead to four when he knocked home a close-range rebound from Andy Brown's shot.

Dumbarton boss Paul Martin made a bold decision when he brought on all his three substitutes for the start of the second half.

The move paid off in the 58th minute when James McKinstry ran on to a John Gemmell pass that split the Alloa defence to drill the ball past James Evans.

Dumbarton took heart from this goal and pinned back the Alloa defence for long periods, but were unable to break through again until the 82nd minute when Andy Rodgers shot home from close range.
